Reference Grammar

Section 3.2.1.A: Verbs: Present Active Indicative

The usage of the present tense is just as it is in any other language. CII and CIII verbs add the endings onto the infinitive without any modification, but CI verbs drop the final consonant before adding the endings.

The endings for the present tense (as well as the future) are:

-ka
-wis
-ti
-vak
-weis
-feila

Mungayöd has only one present tense where English would have several different usages. Aspectual shading (variation in time-frame) is usually determined by context, although there are many adverbs that can be used to clarify the speaker's or writer's intent. It is most typically translated into English with a present progressive (copula plus present participle).

Eimrasuwis lilu hat sosèng.
Vumu dju ìljei.
Magòti momiri.
You are burning your food.
We are going to the city.
He talks too much.
